Anna-Sophie Kaden, aka Asōka, is an aspiring researcher in English and American Studies, Romanistics and General Linguistics.
In her talk „Between Politics and Art: The Afrofuturism of Detroit Techno music“ followed by a thematically subsequent discussion, she plans to give an insight into social and cultural conditions that secured Detroit‘s position as one of the most relevant cities globally when talking about Techno music.
In the process, she aims to consider certain aspects of Detroit‘s Black history, the development of Detroit Techno and the relevance of Underground Resistance, Drexciya and Afrofuturism in order to approach the question: Is the music genre and art form ‚Techno‘ political?
